Lal Quila on Day 2!
27Aug08
I dont remember anything other than having a hang over after the train journey. Its pretty ridiculous to have a hang over because of a train journey !! I had a strange feeling in my mind .. as if been hit by a dagger! The boredom had almost killed me…!! It was afternoon when we woke up,and planned to catch up some spots which we had missed previously,The delhi fort was one among them.We caught the metro and got to chandni chowk ,changing at rajeev chowk. After having explored the metro enough the previous time,we had grown comfortable with the it.
Chandini Chowk market is a huge bazaar-> u roll up burma bazaar, satya bazaar, ranganathan st & moore market to get it!! But typically,It wasnt neat enough..there were so many shops , most of which sold clothings -> fake reebok, adidas, nike!! any international brand just for 135 Rs!! I ravaged through the entire market.. it had almost everything.. books ,electronic gadgets, clothings ..everything!! but with all these, the most noticeable was food!!!! Every third or fourth shop was an eat out, apart from a thousand food vendors on the platform.after walking for almost two hours in the scorching sun,we proceeded to Red fort( Lal Qila).
The fort was huge, though didnt look lovely though (I felt the agra fort was actually lovely)!! The original beauty seems to have got tinkered a lot…anyway it is still huge enough to make one wonder! We walked through a long strech clearing two security checks to the ‘Diwan-i-Aam’, the court for the public. Its believed that the king met his subjects here. The throne at diwan-i-aam still remains majestic, something thats worth watching for more than a few minutes.
The following is another picture taken at Diwan-i-aam
The larger expanse of the fort opened up as we walked further. The fort did occupy a lot of space.I think it would have been more admirable during the days of the mughals. We then walked to the heavily guarded Diwan-i-Khas, the court for private audience. One cant walk into the court, but are allowed only to have a look at it by walking around.Diwan-i-khas was good,it was open on all sides and one of its sides faced the road. It must have been splendid a couple of centuries ago..but now.. the view is a busy highway!!
We jus walked around the fort & snapped a few more pics.. saw the moti masjid and the empty andapuram! We hovered around the place for an hour or so clicking pictures under the trees and other stuffs…its was 5 by then- the security evacuated all tourists then.
I then walked back stunned by the architecture of the fort which looked very ordinary at the first sight.
Chandini chowk bazaar was lit by the time I returned and was even more crowded with people!! Of all the eatables , I found this giant Jilebi to be amazing (even as a domestic tourist)..back home in my city,I have tasted really good home made jilebis sold by rajasthani shops run by immigrants, but this was the first time I got to see such a huge jilebi. It costed 15Rs for 100 grams and was the most sacharine of sweets i ve had!!(I am still looking for the pictures of the giant jilebis) In contrast to the 100% guaranteed fake “palika bazaar”,Chandini chowk was better and had a larger range of genuine stuffs.
The walk around had tired me by the end of the day!! It was one of the most consuming tourist spots I would say..may be it was evening and the humid atmosphere had taken a toll on me…Watever !…apart from this , I wanted to see the sound and light show…It one the most spoken abt “light and sound”shows…but it was scheduled @ 9 o clock in the night. It was a one hour show and we were not sure of comfortable conveyances after 10 in the night..so jus ditched the plan and went bac to Mandi house!!
